HP Officejet Pro L7590 All-In-One Printer

Hewlett Packard's Officejet Pro L7590 is a multifunction printer aimed squarely at small office or home office users. It prints, scans, copies and faxes - all in color. It's networked and the Officejet Pro L7590 comes with an automatic document feeder and does duplex printing. What more could you want?

Printing

The L7590 is a color "Thermal Inkjet" printer. It uses four ink tanks and two 1200 dpi print heads. Using the 4 separate cartridges (black, yellow, cyan and magenta) means that you can replace each cartridge individually, giving you theoretically lower running costs than a single cartridge system.

HP quote print speeds of up to 35 pages per minute in black and white and 34 pages for color. Be aware however, that this is in draft mode. At the highest quality level, print speed is quoted at a more pedestrian 5 pages per minute for both black and white and for color.

An automatic duplexer is supplied for convenient double sided printing, however this slows things down considerably as it pauses between pages to let the ink dry. Paper is supplied through a single 250 sheet paper tray. An extra paper tray is available (at an extra cost) to take the capacity up to 600 sheets.

Scanning

The built in scanner is an 8.5 x 11.7 in flatbed device with a 50 sheet capacity ADF (automatic document feeder) on top. Scan resolution runs at 2,400 dpi. For anyone with any but the most basic scanning, copying or faxing requirements, the ADF is certainly a welcome feature.

Copying

Copy speed runs at over 30 pages per minute in either black and white or in color. The maximum resolution is 1,200 by 600 dpi. There is also a zoom function allowing reduction of enlargement to between 25% and 400% of the original size.

Faxing

The fax unit has a memory large enough to hold up to 125 pages and does the standard things like delayed sending and forwarding. There is also a speed dial with a 99 number capacity.

Connectivity

The HP L7590 comes with a USB 2.0 interface and ethernet adapter as standard. You can also buy an optional wireless network adapter if required. All of the main memory cards are supported through slots available in the front of the unit.

You couldn't really describe this printer as small or compact as it's dimensions are 356 x 525 x 466 mm. And it's no lightweight either weighing in at nearly 16 kilograms - but having said that, portability in an office printer is not typically high on the list of requirements.

One of the main concerns raised by users of this printer is the high noise levels. This seems to be a common complaint from consumers about a number of the HP inkjet printers.

I have seen the Hewlett Packard Officejet Pro L7590 all in one printer selling online for under $200 but prices seem to vary a great deal, so shop around.
