Konica Minolta Magicolor 1680MF Multi-Function Printer

The Magicolor 1680MF all in one printer was launched recently by Konica Minolta as part a new series of small, compact, color printers available at an affordable price. The 1680MF is described as a personal color laser printer which I guess means it's a desktop model aimed at personal users or maybe home office users. The functions available in this model are printing, copying and scanning.

Printing With The Magicolor 1680MF

Printing speed with Konica Minolta 1680MF is 20 pages per minute in black and white and 5 pages in color, with the first page taking 14 seconds (23 for color). The maximum resolution is 1,200 by 600 dpi. Paper capacity is 200 sheets in the 'Multipurpose Tray'. Since this is Konica Minolta's entry level multifunction device, there is no network capability - connectivity is supported through a USB 2.0 interface.

Copying

The copier has a maximum resolution of 600 x 600 dpi and runs at 20 pages per minute for monchrome or 5 for color at 'normal' resolution (which I think is 600 x 300 dpi). It also has a zoom function with a range of 50% to 200% in 1% steps.

Scanning

The scanner is an A4 size, flat bed, CCD image sensor with resolution of 600 x 600 dpi. Scan modes supported are TWAIN and Windows WIA scan with JPEG, PDF and TIFF file formats supported.

It would be nice if this model had faxing capability, but if you want that, you can go for the Magicolor 1690MF which includes a fax and some other extra bits and pieces. What I do like is the small footprint - the base of this machine is just 405 x 427mm with a height of 375mm.

The Konica Minolta Magicolor 1680MF multi-function printer comes with a 1 year warranty. Prices vary greatly, but I have seen it listed at various online retailers for anywhere between $250 and $400 dollars.
